pomVLAD is a new project based within PQIP reporting near real-time risk-adjusted postoperative morbidity through an online dashboard and regular reports. The following ten sites have been selected to take part in the pilot project:

Birmingham Heartlands Hospital
Broomfield Hospital
East Surrey Hospital
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital
Salford Royal Hospital
St Mary's Hospital
Torbay Hospital
Warwick Hospital
York Hospital

The project uses a variable life-adjusted display (VLAD) to show observed against expected postoperative morbidity, and is combined with reporting of some ERAS society recommendations (mainly aimed at lower GI surgery but are also relevant to other types of surgery). The dashboard display will automatically update as records are locked and it is available through the PQIP web tool.

We hope this project will support sites to monitor risk-adjusted morbidity outcomes after surgery and for the recommendations to provide areas to focus on for local quality improvement.

From a site perspective, there is no additional burden of data collection. Everything used to produce the dashboard display and reports is already routinely collected within PQIP.
